The hotel is well situated and the reception staff were friendly. The spa and treatment were excellent. The room was comfortable, but the bathroom let it down. The towel rail was not secure (reported), and the ceiling had peeling paint. The shower also had an old curtain fixture that had not been removed. The bath was lovely and deep, but this is possibly why the towel rail was not secure as bath not easy to get out of as no grab rail where needed. The toilet did not have a toilet brush. The hotel is in an old school but other than the bathroom looked well maintained.

Dog friendly rooms- dog bed, bowl and treats provided. Reception staff and dinner staff were amazing. Breakfast staff were friendly but inattentive, slow and seemingly more focused on chatting with one another than tending to customers with the exception of one waitress from America. The room was a bit tired and did have a strong odor which smelled like stale dog urine. The bed was comfy. Towels are old and worn and should be replaced. Location great and parking easy. Vegan options for dinner- gnocchi was great, Pizza was very basic and base not handmade. Breakfast chef was very kind in finding and cooking some vegan sausages for us but it would be good if this was an available option. Also breakfast items could benefit from labeling so you can see which allergens are included rather than bothering the staff.

A characterful hotel with decent pool and spa. Rooms are quite dated and needed better ventilation as very stuffy, even with the windows open. Double bed was quite small but bathroom was good. Excellent location for the castle and staff were helpful.
