After missing the first night due to a massive storm that wiped out all power and communication to the area, we were contacted by 9am the next morning saying our accommodation was ready, Charlotte was lovely on the phone and so apologetic even though clearly not her fault. We arrived and the power had just been turned on, the cleaners and maintenance team had done an amazing job getting things ready. Our accommodation was extended to cover the missing night without any hassles at all. The kids area is great, the pool was the best, has a little shallow bit for our 3 yr old to play in. The staff throughout the week were so lovely. Can't wait to book next year again.
We loved our stay here, it was lots of fun. It's a great location you can walk onto the sand dunes from here and if you really wanted a longer walk, could walk across them to the beach - that would probably take an hour and it's not a swimming beach, but would still be a fun adventure. The pool is great, not heated, so best in summer and there are ping pong & pool tables. Note that The Retreat is NOT luxurious and is in fact a bit run down, although still well maintained if that makes sense. Lovely bath and hand towells and bedding etc were provided. And it was clean. We stayed in the big house and had a blast. 16 people. 6 rooms and 3 bathrooms. Fridge could have been bigger but it was fine.
We slept three nights in one of the cottages. The garden is lovely with a big playground for the kids. The rooms and the kitchen had a lot of space and my family enjoyed the pool. A week prior to our stay there was a sandstorm and from what I understood they were still cleaning up. The pool had a lot of plants and dirt on the floor which I guess is still from that storm. The cottage itself could have been cleaner on our arrival. There was garbage and toys from previous guests under the beds, the floor wasn’t clean and most of the dishes we had to clean before using them. In general I think the cottage is in need of a proper profound cleaning. The manager and the staff were lovely and really helpful with everything. All in all we had a good time.
