Wanosato

We stayed here last summer and still talk about this wonderful place frequently. The location is beautiful and serene, the staff are incredible kind and attentive and the meal was amazing! Try everything! We really enjoyed chatting with Mr. Norio Nakashima, who was so entertaining and kind despite us only understanding about 20 words in each other's languages.

My wife and I stayed here for one night. The friendly staff, the environment and the stay were excellent. We both would have liked to stay longer. We were welcomed with a small meal and some tea, kimonos were offered to us and in the evening, after a long bath in the hotel's own onsen, there was a multi-course menu. The room had a wonderful view of the Miyagawa River. This ryokan is a must for any guest seeking peace and quiet. I think I could write a whole essay about how much we enjoyed it here, but that's it for now. For me, it was definitely a highlight of my trip and definitely worth a visit. Unconditionally 5/5 stars.

Set in a really remote, lovely setting, this hotel felt like I was living in Japan of the past. They have clearly tried to kept the essence of the ryokan alive with things like a communal fire by the entrance, and basic (but refurbished) interior design. Really nice private onsens, food (Japanese) wasn’t our preferred type (it was shabu-shabu and sukiyaki) but the quality was great. The loveliest staff too! The only issue was we went in the spring season and there were lots of insects in our room. Would recommend for sure
