This place is a gem. No question. Rooms are a bit vintage but perfectly fine. Equiped with the basics. Food is excellent. Breakfast service was outstanding and the eggs cooked to perfection. Seriously: they nailed the scrambled eggs like I would only Gordon Ramsay expect them to deliver. Staff during breakfast operations really cared about the small details. Definitely five stars! However overall only 4 instead of 5 stars because: 1. Management of the restaurant next to the lobby was semi professional. Restaurant manager refused to shut doors even when it was raining and pretty chilly outside and started a unhelpful discussion (supposedly a Covid safety measure which none of the other staff was aware of when they simply closed the doors when asked). Also drinks here didn't live up the standard that one could expect from a 4* hotel (vodka soda incl. sugar syrup for some reason) 2. We booked a wine tasting in the wine cellar of the hotel which was a total waste of money. A local vineyard owner trash talked every other wine you could possibly think of only to praise his own pretty cheap tasting Riesling. Highly unprofessional and not worth any money. We did a wine tasting the night before at Dr. Leimbrock vineyard which gave us an indication on what a tasting can look like on the other end of the spectrum. Overall still a great experience and would come back but still would love to see some adjustments on the tasting and restaurant service operation.

Our room was on the top story and seemed rather small which was ok but no air con was not very pleasant at night. Not being offered help with our bags on arrival especially up stairs was not very good. When asking the next day for an overview of the hotel and location of amenities, we were met with confusion and “what do you need to know”. Usually when you check in at hotels they let you know where things are and as this is a large property we wanted to know where things are. I would honestly give the wine tasting a miss if you are doing other tastings in the area, they are a bit boring. Don’t expect lunch as it doesn’t open until 3pm and if you have to ask for a menu, although the young man working was very friendly and helpful there are only 4 options to pick from. If you have an electric car, you can’t charge here and I would suggest either using the charger down the road or the Tesla super charger within 20km. The breakfast was pretty good and the staff working in the dining room for breakfast were friendly and helpful. My suggestion to this hotel would be convert one of the many dining rooms you have to a lounge as there is no where to sit in relax inside, there is about 4 dining area though and most of them sitting empty. Come to the Mosel for the wines and scenery but not this hotel, there is a beautiful hotel across the river in a historic building for slightly more a night.

How can a hotel that charges this much a night, and be rated 4*, have bedroom temperatures at night [in June] at 30°C and do nothing about it? Fair enough if they cannot afford, or justify, to retrofit reverse cycle cooling but surely fans for guests' rooms could be a start? I've genuinely had more comfort in $2/night rooms backpacking through Central America or SE Asia. The staff are lovely but helpless. Owners please help them and your business. In the meantime guests avoid staying at this hotel during summer or winter.
