Recently visited as a group of 17 colleagues. An excellent stay! The apartments are clean, very well equipped and comfortable. Possibly the comfiest bed & pillows I've ever slept on after my own. The food is excellent. Great choices on the menu and the portions are very generous. The atmosphere is calm and friendly. The staff make it. You can tell they love and are proud of their place of work and enjoy being there. This makes all the difference. The cost of the rooms per person, per night with a great breakfast included is an absolute steal. Excellent location on the quay and a 5 minute taxi journey into beautiful, lively Westport. Can't wait to come back.
Just back from the Helm for a meal and we are definitely full. I emailed Shane who was very quick in responding and within a few minutes I had a table booked. We weren't disappointed. The meal was excellent and a great atmosphere. We had the salmon Florentine and the pan fried chicken. Then dessert was ice cream 4 scoops and warm pear and almond tart with vanilla ice cream. When we finished our desserts a gentleman came over to clear the next table so I asked could I have the bill and I asked him was his name Shane and he said it was and so I introduced myself to Shane and I said I emailed him this evening for the booking and he knew my last name straight away. I explained it was a birthday dinner and I asked for the bill, to our surprise he brought over two whiskeys as a birthday treat. Thank you so much Shane and the friendly staff at the Helm for a great service and for making our evening a memorable one. We would highly recommend the Helm for a meal. 24/06/25. PS I would recommend you book your table in advance or you might have to wait. It is a very popular place.
The food here is outstanding. They clearly use high quality fresh, local ingredients. It’s always packed in the evenings so a reservation is essential. My only complaint is they removed the fish & chips from their menu and it was honestly the best I’d tried in Ireland.
