We just popped in for lunch. Friendly staff, especially Megan. I asked if we could view the room used for weddings as my daughter is getting married here next year. She didn’t hesitate to show us around and was really helpful. The food was amazing too!
The hotel is very close to the castle and cathedral, it is very clean, unfortunately the night we stayed it was hot, there is no aircon or ceiling fans, and the windows only open slightly, understandably, reception did get us an electric fan thankfully. Tea and coffee in the room, beds comfortable. We had a slight problem with breakfast, which was tasty and rectified. Would stay there again.
On arrival we were directed to a public car park where I had to leave the car overnight ( £10 public car park charge for 24hours) . There was no option to park at the hotel. Reception staff were polite and nice. Reception is in an office room by the entrance. Our room was a big disappointment. It was small, showing leak marks on walls and right outside our windows was all the air ventilation equipment. This was causing outside air to be even hotter ( we visited during hot weather anyway) and there was constant himming noise. Room had no air-conditioning, was very hot and opening windows would only bring hot air and noise from the ventilation equipment in. It felt too hot and uncomfortable even during night. Bathroom was nice but sash window stayed open only if propped up by a plastic cup with air source heatpump 30cm from the window humming all the time. The room door kept banging/ making noise every time someone walked down the corridor. Not pleasant when your bed is right next to it. It felt like someone was trying the handle every time. Breakfast was nice but not sure if worth £20. Went to the bar for a drink, the bar attendant was friendly and served us 1 beer and 1 cocktail ( cost just over £17 for the 2 ) Location was great. All in all , could be a nice stay if you are OK with your car being at a publick car park and if you avoid room 150. Although I haven't seen what other rooms look like.
