4 star? Should be a 10 star hotel. I’ve stayed in a couple of 5 star hotels in the past and they were nothing compared to Wotton House. As soon as we arrived, the receptionist were brilliant and helped me carry our bags into our room (Poppy). We also had some of our wedding cake left over from our wedding day (we came straight from our wedding). The staff member offered to take our cake and store it in their fridge which I was not expecting. Throughout our stay the staff members were extremely polite and courteous. Breakfast was great buffet style with huge amount of choice available. Spa facilities - pool on the tad small side however the rest were great and really made our mini-moon that extra relaxing. However, a few mould spots on the swimming pool seating but this was very minor. The 9km walk around the estate was just exceptional and the reception team were on hand to give us recommendations on the best route to go and we had such an amazing time. We were so expressed, we are now making Wotton House are go to hotel retreat for the future. Incredible is all I have to say
My wife & I hosted a Charity Dinner & Dance in late April, for just under 100 people. From the moment we were considering hosting it at the venue we were looked after extremely well and it is such a beautiful spot for an event. Hanna guided us through all the aspects required to host an evening at the hotel which was brilliant and no question was too small or silly. We were kept informed at all times. Not being accustomed to organising such events, the stresses were very present but on the day, the staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. We were able to set up in good time and Lauren and Ashley were there to see that our needs were met, pointing out what was what & where and assisting where they could. During the evening, the serving staff (including Gerald & Cheryl) were friendly and considerate and all the guest had a wonderful evening. The food was outstanding and over all it was an fantastic and memorable occasion, enjoyed greatly by all who attended. I can't praise them all highly enough for their help in making it such a success and would certainly consider hosting another there. Rooms were perfectly suitable, particularly for a family and breakfast was plentiful. Faultless.
We recently stayed at Wotton House for two nights and overall had a lovely experience. The staff were all genuinely friendly, welcoming, and accommodating, which really added to the stay. The decor throughout the hotel and in the rooms is tasteful and elegant, and the hotel grounds are absolutely beautiful a real highlight of the visit. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a modern fan and a TV (though only with basic channels). There was a small cupboard area with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and even a couple of biscuits, which was a nice touch. However, we were only provided with two tea bags for a two-night stay, which felt a little stingy especially if you choose not to have your room serviced during your stay. A few extra tea bags would have made a big difference. The bathroom itself was quite small, which might be a consideration for some guests. My partner had paid extra for a romantic room decoration, but he was left quite disappointed by the display. For the additional cost, we had expected something more thoughtful and impressive. The leisure facilities were good and well-maintained, which added to our experience. Breakfast offered a good variety of options, which was appreciated, but we found the quality of the food overall to be lacking. I struggled to enjoy my cooked breakfast, the flavours and sauces used were quite basic, and not what you’d expect for the price point. Dinner was similar in that regard. My partner had the lamb, which was cooked beautifully and was very succulent, but the portion size was small, and he felt like he should’ve ordered a side to feel satisfied. We also shared a dessert, which tasted nice but was surprisingly small, definitely not a dish to share if you both want more than a couple of bites. One thing to note is that the menu shown online for the on-site restaurant was different from the menu we were given once seated. That led to a bit of confusion and some disappointment. Service during dinner was quite slow as well, which stood out even more considering how many staff were visibly working. You’d expect quicker and more efficient service given the staffing levels. In fact, we were so disappointed by the dining experience on our first night that we cancelled our reservation in the on-site restaurant for the second night and chose to eat at a local pub instead which turned out to be a much more enjoyable meal. Despite a few letdowns mostly around food, service speed, and value for extras Wotton House is undeniably a beautiful hotel with lots of charm. With a few tweaks, especially in the dining experience, it has the potential to be truly excellent. We’d definitely consider returning if those areas were improved.
