Xindadu

Not sure if this is still a sheraton but it’s used to be one of the best and oldest hotels in beijing and was sheraton for at least over 2 decades. Then sometime 2008 onwards the standard of the hotel really started going down and it became quite run down. Other modern properties came up around the hotel and this hotel failed to keep up the standards. Sad to see a good hotel go down in standards.

During my 7 days stay at the hotel, I found the staff there was friendly and welcoming. The hotel location is very convenient, walking distance to the shopping center and train station. The room was clean and bed was comfortable. However, I could see the better days of this place. It used to be the landmark and one of the luxury hotels back the days. The hotel needs a major renovation hopefully in the near future. I would stay there next time when I come back to Beijing.

I stayed here for a whole week staycation with one of my friends from the states. Somehow, almost EVERY NIGHT I came back to my room, the security person always had to check my ID and my room card. Even after seeing my face a couple days in a row. And please note, this did not happen to every customer. It only happen to younger, female customers. I saw they let in most men but stopped a couple of us. The unruly security check like this is unacceptable and misogynistic. Shame on you, Sheraton, for allowing this in Beijing. This was the low of my vacation and the most horrendous service I have received with Sheraton anywhere in the world.
