TLDR; 4.5 stars Recommended for people who are looking for a great value-for-money stay in Takeo Onsen; if you are particular about room design or "newness", this might not be for you. People sensitive to noise should avoid the rooms facing the road. Stayed in the 8-tatami room and corner 12-tatami room for a night each. The rooms looks dated and has small wear and tear scattered around (the 8-tatami room is in better condition). They are both very clean. Both rooms faced the street and I can hear the traffic although it didn't bother me much. The futon here is also the thinner type but it is not a major issue for me. Service wise, I felt great hospitality from all the staff despite language barriers, they tried very hard to communicate the essentials and made me feel warm and very at home. This place is on the onsen street right in front of the famous Takeo Onsen Romon. The view from the 12-tatami room is very good at the coffee area. So 5/5 for location. I had the breakfast and dinner each once and I was quite impressed with the dinner. Some flavours of the appetisers were quite interesting in a good way. P/s: they reimburse taxi fares from Takeo Onsen train station - just give them the receipt during check-in
I had a wonderful one-night stay in the Sazanka room at Yumotoso Toyokan Ryokan. This premium room, secluded and peaceful, came with an attached onsen bath and included dinner and breakfast. The wooden tea room, with 8+4.5 tatami mats, featured a luxurious cypress bath with natural hot spring water, offering a private and tranquil hot spring experience. The room, accommodating 2-3 people, also included a warm water washing toilet. The price, around ¥25,000–¥30,000, was fantastic value for the experience. The onsen facilities were exceptional, with mineral-rich water that left my skin feeling smooth and rejuvenated. While both the 1st-floor and 4th-floor onsens were relaxing, the newer 4th-floor onsen stood out. My routine—Onsen > Dinner > Onsen > Sleep > Onsen > Breakfast—was pure bliss, blending relaxation and indulgence. The included kaiseki dinner was a highlight, beautifully presented and delicious, showcasing fresh seasonal ingredients. Breakfast was equally delightful, prepared with care and attention to detail. Sleeping on a futon on tatami floors added to the authentic Japanese experience. Overall, this serene and immersive stay was a perfect blend of traditional luxury and comfort—highly recommended! 😊
Nicely prepared meal, known as "Kaiseki (formal dinner)", was super delicious. Kind staffs with personalized service!
