I go here every other year or so with my wife to celebrate our anniversary and every year its exactly as how we left it. Just great. Its an older hotel and has a Kitchy feel but man is it fun and the location is great. The steam room and sauna are awesome in the fitness center but you have to go to 3rd floor to access it. Our penthouse room was huge and it felt special. The jetted tub was clean and was very nice. Its always a great experience here, with plenty to do in the surrounding area.
The merry-go-round was great. They had beautiful walking paths, (go see the crater), a bike store. The Starbucks left A LOT to be desired, it's not a normal Starbucks. Decent food within a short drive. Conference rooms were nice.
Short summary: Zermatt would have been luxury about 35 years ago. Unfortunately its less than 20 years old. The location for Zermatt is fantastic. Midway and surrounding area is lovely. albeit starting to become too built up. The rooms themselves are comfortable and clean, although rather dated, and therein lies the big problem. The resort is "tired". Everything looks like it has had little to no maintenance so the whole place is not looking luxury any longer. Concrete is degrading in the walkways, the wood needs to be stained, and just everything is old. The pool area is not very nice at all, and pool water is very cloudy. The staff themselves are friendly and helpful, but there is nowhere near enough of them. The bar is, well, oddly designed and does not have a great selection of alcohol. Its a shame as the resort could be amazing. Instead, it screams that the owners are extracting the maximum amount of money they can, and are neglecting it.
