Zhanshan Garden Hotel

I stayed here for 3 nights in November 2014 taking a break from Beijing before a Trans-Siberian trip back to the UK. Its in an old observatory so you can imagine the location (hilltop) and the general ambience is nice. Great friendly staff on the reception and in the restaurant, comfortable rooms, mine was south facing to the woods with the sun shining in the window in the early morning. The whole atmosphere of the hostel is quiet, relaxing and pleasant. Food is excellent and good value. I recommend the German muesli breakfast which I've tried to replicate back home but can't -food just tastes better when you are travelling! The restaurant is great for having a quiet beer in the evening and you can go out onto the rooftop garden. One of the best places I've stayed in.

Had one hell of a time finding this place but man was it worth it! We were looking for a chill place to have dinner and we're referred by a friend. After about an hour of walking down dark streets and alleyways, asking random Chinese folks for directions (all pointing different directions) and finally walking up some spooking looking spiral staircase where a bear of a dog tried to eat us, we finally arrived. We were greeted with a warmly lit, open air café and bar overlooking the city. The staff were very friendly and spoke understandable English. They were even playing American country music! The ambiance was topped with the smell of our All-day-breakfast order of hashbrowns, German sausage, toast and fruit juice. I highly recommend this place as a restaurant, café and bar. Although I haven't stayed in the hostel, I can only imagine how great it would be.

Stayed here for a week at the end of a trip to beijing. I had a great time exploring the city with other travelers I met at the hostel.
