We really liked this place. We stayed here for a week, with our 6 years old son, and loved every moment. The location in Oberammergau is superb, we did every day many trips in the area, lots of hiking, cable cars rides, Austria is around the corner too. The “König card” included many activities for a reduced or no price at all and really paid off. One of the highlights is the view from this apartment, from the main balcony (2 totally). We had a pastoral view on the Alps, which we enjoyed in the evenings. The apartment itself is big and very spacious. Our son got his own room with lots of space to play. There is a big wardrobe. It was very helpful to have a washing machine and a dryer. Another highlight was the breakfast, which for us cheese lovers was amazing! Every day big variety of delicious cheeses (also lots of sausages but we stuck to the cheese), fresh buns and mini croissants, great coffee too! The couple who runs this place is friendly, kind and attentive. The only minus point was that unlike the advertisements there was no internet connection in the apartment, which for us specifically was a problem, so we had to pay extra to connect to the only local net available in the area, cause ours didn’t work there. If they fix that issue, we are definitely coming back there! Thank you family Ruppenthal!

I saw so many positive reviews on Booking, I booked directly with the pension. We were so disappointed, and wondered if we were staying in the same place reviewed on Booking. When we first arrived around 1630, I felt like I had the wrong place because the owner seemed stern and not welcoming. I wondered..was 1630 too late to arrive?? The room, while large and extremely clean, was uncomfortable because there was no sofa/chairs in the living room, only two beds that you could not sit on comfortably. We didn't need a room for four, which this was, and I'm pretty sure I booked a different room. There was a nice dining table and chairs. Breakfast was not great and living in Germany, we're used to continental breakfasts. There was no muesli for the yogurt and the honey was sticky hard, not creamy. Cheeses were great. Coffee plentiful which was appreciated. At night, the front door was unlit making it difficult to enter. We had few interactions with the host and none seemed very welcoming. Felt like we were an imposition. Sorry for the poor review but we really wanted to pack up and leave and it was an unusual feeling.

Conversation with the owner before arrival. I received a message from the owner on Booking, in German language, with the information about check in etc. I used Google Translate and I answered back in English, telling him my estimate arrival time and the fact that I don't speek German and I had to use Google. He did not care about it, he continued to write in German. Late check in. Due to a small delay, I arrived 30min after the time I mentioned and he was outside, waiting for me. He did not offered to help with the luggage on the small stairs. Room: the room is clean, the bathroom is modern, but there was no real bed linen, only the mattress' own sheet. There was a double bed, but only one pillow, I know I was just 1 person, but it was the first time I saw this happening. Breakfast. If you are a fan of different types of meat/bacon etc this is for you. Nothing else, nothing significant. No fresh vegetables, no fruits (one day there were blueberries and raspberries, it was a surprise). I asked for omlette, he said no, only boiled eggs. Well, minimum effort, but maximum profit, because the price is high. So, no prepared or cooked food for breakfast, only things from a jar or from a can, even if it seems to be a "family business". The family was there, just saying hello. Some youghurt, cheese and only orange juice. + butter and 3 types of jam. What was more than weird: the first morning he guided me to the table, and the next morning when I choosed to sit at a different table, he saw me and said "no, sit here". I said "I want to stay here", as there was nobody else in the breakfast space. The house: if you are more than 1.78-1.80 m tall I don't advise you to go there. The room is ok, there are pictures with it, but no pictures with the hallways or the stairs. You cannot walk normally from your room downstairs to have breakfast, you have to start hunching, not to hit the beams and the ceiling with your head. Early check out. Could not be at 11 even if the house was empty, no other guests. As I needed to change my clothes after my course, in the morning I told him and he offered me the WC as a good space. I succeded to change clothes in another space and to arrange my clothes and shoes in the luggage, thanks to the amability of the house cleaner, a kind young lady. Payment: He was not aware that the payment was already done through booking.com before even arriving. When I came downstairs with all my luggage I gave him the keys in the main hallway and he asked me all of a sudden "do you want to pay cash or card?" and I said "I think I've already paid, can you please check?", and I went to the breakfast area starting to get some food on my dish. After a couple of minutes he came to my table, where I have just put my food, with the invoice and a POS. I asked him "did you check?" And he said "yes, pay". I told him "wait, I will show you, I have already paid through booking". And he replied "through booking?" and then dissapeared, going to check probably his booking stuff. I went after him, because he already disrupted my breakfast and I showed him the proof of payment on my phone", he was "yes, it's ok". I said "now I can eat".
