Zuurberg Mountain Village

We had a lovely stay here. Ok, the last 16 km on a fairly poor dirt road is the only little drawback, but that's part of the African experience. All the staff were excellent, polite and very helpful. We booked a game drive to Addo and that was fantastic too. Excellent driver / guide with superb wildlife knowledge, and they had a super breakfast set up for us at Jack's picnic site. Half day's excursion is plenty. The pool and grounds by the chalets are nicely kept. The buffet food was plentiful and very decent fare. Good selection of wines and other drinks available too. Rooms were spacious and clean, no issues. Hot water is available at set times. There's also a 3km hike for those with energy.

The hotel itself exudes class and elegance, from the stunning candlelit dinners to the serene breakfast experience on the terrace, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views. The kitchen team deserves the highest praise—every meal was homemade, traditional, and bursting with freshness. You can taste the love and dedication in every bite! The cottage rooms were perfect—cozy, comfortable, and full of charm. But what truly stole our hearts were the beautifully maintained gardens. They add an extra layer of tranquility and make the entire experience even more special. A special thank you to the incredible team for saving us when we arrived late in the evening with no petrol—your kindness and hospitality will never be forgotten. At the top of the Zuurberg mountains, with a sweeping view of the Addo Elephant Park is this classic, vintage hotel rich in history and tradition. If you want an old school, classy hotel where you can sit in front of a fireplace, the stones of which were from the fort that was originally built in the 1900's as a fortress post - then this is for you. Fine food, great staff and a friendly and kind owner. I was most impressed when my car was washed without asking, or when a friendly labrador strolled passed me in the dining room. A warm, classy and comfortable stay, in a breathtaking location. Highly recommended.
