We stayed at the Holiday Inn Rosebank in Johannesburg for 3 nights during our visit to South Africa. Here’s my honest and detailed review, covering both the pros and cons. Location: The hotel is in a very accessible area. It’s directly connected to the Rosebank Zone and the mall, which offers plenty of shopping options and a wide variety of restaurants. If you’re visiting for tourism, this location is ideal — most pickup points, including the City Sightseeing bus and safari tours, are right in front of the hotel. Room: The room was spacious — definitely more so than other Holiday Inns I’ve stayed at in different countries. The staff were kind enough to give us a room with a roadside view, which we appreciated. Bathroom: The bathroom was well-equipped with all the necessary amenities. However, one strange design choice stood out, there’s a glass door directly in front of the toilet seat. This means if someone is using the toilet, it’s visible from the room — quite unexpected and a bit uncomfortable. It would be much better if the glass was tinted or had an opaque film to ensure privacy. Water Bottles: A minor but recurring inconvenience was the drinking water. The hotel provides two complimentary bottles each day, but they’re only around 300ml each — not nearly enough. We often had to call the front desk to request more, which, while always accommodated, felt a bit awkward after a point. The hotel staff did deliver bottles whenever we requested it’s just that It would be more convenient if they provided larger bottles. Breakfast: The breakfast was great. They had all the essentials — breads, croissants, a live egg station, and a buffet spread that was more than enough to fuel us for the day. Everything was well-prepared and fresh. Staff: The hotel staff were kind, helpful, and consistently cooperative. They never refused any of our requests and were always ready to assist. It’s clear they genuinely want guests to have a comfortable and pleasant stay. Irrespective of few minor issues I mentioned, I do recommend tourists coming to Holiday Inn Rosebank for their stay. It’s a very convenient option.
Stayed for 3 nights. The rooms were warm and cozy, especially with the cold winter. The pillows were are bit too soft and "deflate". Service was amazing and the breakfast buffet was great!
First of all, virtually all of the staff I interacted with were incredibly courteous and helpful. Bertha at the dinner service was always so sweet and attentive and did her best despite the very slow cooking of dinner every night. I had minor issues here with cold food, bones in the kids fish nuggets, missing buns on hamburgers, and a lot of unavailable menu items. However, my biggest issue was not being informed that the hotel was on generator power and therefore the aircon was off. I did not anticipate being unable to heat the room in winter and traveling with my older mother and young son this was not okay to have not been informed of this ahead of time. Lastly, our water in room would not rise above 35 C. Being in a cold room and after a long day, I anticipated an enjoyable hot shower and instead was meet with lukewarm water. Maintenance was called 3 times and nothing changed or improved so far. Cold room and no hot shower is not a combination I would've booked. Challenges due to infrastructure that are beyond the hotel's control are understandable, but guests should be told so they can make an informed decision in advance vs just being forced to deal with these limitations after it's too late... Very disappointed.
