The Devonian

Such a beautiful guest house, a stunning building that is thoughtfully and stylishly decorated throughout. Hosted by a very friendly couple, Piper and Terence (& their cute pet tortoise!) Our room, The Pullman green room, had lovely views out over the gardens to the hills behind Ilfracombe. It's a very comfortable room with everything you need for your stay and beautifully but simply decorated. The breakfast, with a good selection of cooked and cold choices,is served in pretty crockery in a very pretty room with huge windows and similar amazing views over the garden. Served by Terence who is super friendly and chatty,a great host! The garden is wonderful with different levels and seating zones where you can relax with a book or just chat. We walked the coast path towards Lee and into Ilfracombe, both easily accessible from The Devonian. We'd definitely stay again, such a welcoming atmosphere and clearly loved guest house,probably the best we've ever stayed in!

What a hidden little gem!! We stayed here for a wedding at another hotel, extending our stay to take in a few sights. The Devonian was a fabulous base. Terence & Piper were the perfect hosts, so friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed chatting with them. There is something to see in every room, full of memorabilia, antiques & collections. The gardens are beautiful with so many nooks and crannies to sit, with a quaint stream at the bottom. We had the small twin room as that was the only one available but still very comfortable for a few days break. The room had everything we needed and a fab selection of teas/coffee and bathroom toiletries. Hats off to Piper and her amazing tasty breakfasts. We will definitely be returning...highly recommended!

We were looking for a place to stay for a 5 day trip to North Devon and I came across a B&B in Ilfracombe. There were just 2 rooms left, a double for my husband and I and a single for our friend, so we went for them. On arriving at The Devonian we were not disappointed. We were immediately welcomed by Terence, one of the owners. He helped with our luggage to our rooms. Big smiles from us. Our rooms were excellent and decorated to a high standard, with everything you could want. It is situated in a very quiet spot with excellent views over the gardens. So appealing. Piper, the other half of this duo, is such a super person, full of energy and ready to help you with whatever we needed. They couldn’t do enough for us. Piper makes all the guests delicious and varied breakfasts and Terence is there to help serve and give advice on places to go and restaurants to eat. The house is owned and run by Terence and Piper and they want to share their wonderful home. We felt their love of their wonderful home and their thoughtful ways, they made our stay so enjoyable. Don’t ignore it ! Book it ! It is a real find Linda and David Thomson
