Don’t be intimidated by the stairs! Well worth the trip and effort to get to the top floor to see the views from your ideal location right over the harbour with two big comfortable beds. Just take up what you need for the night or nights. We stayed here 20 years ago and never forgot the thrill of watching the tender taking the fisherman to their boats in the early morning with the sun just rising in all its brilliant glory over the horizon! The owner has thought of everything needed for a cosy stay atop the old ships’ chandlery complete with historic pictures of the amazing history beside the Cape Islander boats waiting to leave for a day on the ocean. As Nova Scotians originally, we really enjoyed this magnificent location with coffee supplies, microwave, refrigerator and air fryer? A few ingredients and you can prepare a meal yourself because the only restaurants are in nearby Machias but we loved the isolation in this forgotten village bypassed by flashy tourist spots. We highly recommend this fascination building in its historic setting! A once in a lifetime chance to see an original hard working port of rugged fishermen. Trust me on this choice; I’m 72 and a seasoned traveller.

WELL WORTH pulling off of route 1 a few minutes!! My family stayed in the Lupine room at the Harbor House Hotel and it was a wonderful time! We are from out of state and appreciated the tips for local (and inexpensive) fresh lobster, let alone the offer to help us cook them!! Wayne is a very kind innkeeper who did a lot to make our stay memorable and fun. He wore many hats and made sure we were very comfortable. He even allowed us to use the porch for games and was wonderful to talk to. There is so much in the pipeline for this hotel, and the area! The room itself is full of character, with interesting art, and feels full of history. The room had an amazing view of the harbor! It also feels great knowing that our stay and business helps this small community thrive and grow. Thank you Wayne and Denise for your wonderful hospitality and tips! The thoughtful touches of the white noise machines and wireless chargers were great to allow for a great night sleep. Updated high tech locks on doors was a plus as well.

Harbor House Hotel is an authentic treasure. During a recent roadtrip, I needed to find a place where I could participate in a webinar being co-hosted by the company I work for. The Lupine Suite provided exactly what I needed. It is a room designed for families, but it had enough space for me to participate in the webinar, while my companion still had enough room to relax and enjoy. The Lupine Suite is cozy, beautiful and decorated in what is best described as "eclectic vintage," with lovely antiques. The amenities and other things are thoughtfully included. There is a beautiful ocean/harbor view, complete with fishing boats. The innkeeper, Dr. Wayne Yee, is also the town dentist. He happily shared the hotel's history with us, which made the place even more special. The room has a TV, refrigerator, microwave, air fryer, coffee maker, hot water pot, a hotplate-like stove, dishes, and utensils. All the comforts of home. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. We will definitely be going back.
